OUR REVIEW:

We were sent an Apple Cheeks Size 2 (Color: Eucalyptus) Envelope Cover, a bamboo insert and booster, and waist extenders to try out and review.

Fit/Rise/Sizing:  AppleCheeks is a 2 size diapering system. Size 1 fits from approx. 7-20 pounds and Size 2 fits 18-40 pounds. Since they are a 2 size diapering system you can get a better fit compared to other one sized diapers. The down side is that you have to buy diapers twice instead of once with OS. We tried this diaper out on Monkey and also his cousin that is a year old and very skinny. The rise and fit were great for both of them and we didn't have any problems with either kiddo. With the Apple Cheeks system you will get less leaks and a much trimmer fit than with using fitted cloth diapers. 
Since we also received the waist extenders we will definitely be able to use this diaper through potty training since it will go past the 40lb limit with the extenders.

Pocket Opening: Best part about this system? You can use it as an All-in-Two diaper where you just switch out the insert and reuse the cover OR its has a built in pocket so you can use it as a pocket diaper also.  The diaper is very easy to use with either method.  Even the newbie cloth diapering parent can easily figure out how to use it.  All you have to do is fold the insert in thirds and lay on top of diaper cover.  Or if you want to use it as a pocket diaper you can place the insert into the envelope opening at the back of the diaper.  Using the cover/insert method, you will be able to change your insert up to three times before having to use a new cover, assuming it does not get pooped in. If you prefer to use it as a pocket diaper you can expect to use one insert per cover. 

If you do use it as a pocket diaper you don't have to worry about unstuffing it before washing!! The diaper is made to unstuff itself in the wash so that makes life even easier.

Hook and Loop or Snaps: AppleCheeks are available in Snap closure.

Elastic: The elastic on the Apple Cheeks is one of my favorite aspects of the diaper. We have had problems in the past with a few other brands of diapers we tried with gaping on the front of the diaper.....and with a boy that is a BAD thing. They will pee right out of the top of the diaper. Not with Apple Cheeks though! All of their diapers have elastic in the back along with the front for all around excellent coverage. We haven't had any trouble at all with gaping or peeing out of the top of the diaper.

Also the elastic around the legs is nice and snug so that it keeps the poo in without leaving nasty marks on my little mans legs. Right now Monkey weighs 29lbs so the size 2 fits him perfectly and will for a long time to come.

CARE OF YOUR DIAPERS:

-PRIOR TO WASHING: After making sure that all solids have been emptied into the toilet run a cold pre-rinse or small cold wash in the machine, or a rinse under cold water. Breast milk only feces do not need to be removed from the diapers prior to washing as they are water soluble. There is no need to un-stuff the diaper since they are designed to un-stuff all on their own in the washer.

-MACHINE WASH: Run the heavy-duty/full wash cycle with hot water (60°C) and very little of a residue-free, scent-free, softener-free, glycerin-free detergent on the double rinse option. If you use a top loader, use 1/4 cup of detergent OR LESS. If you use a front loader, use a maximum of 1/8 cup of detergent.  

-DRY: As with all other cloth diapers it is recommend to hang your AppleCheeks covers up to dry. This will extend the life of your diapers and make them hold up better. Covers can be machine dried on LOW when needed and the inserts can be machine-dried on HOT or hung to dry.

Price: These diapers are on the pricier side when they are used as a pocket diaper, but run a little cheaper if you use them as an all-in-two diaper. You will pay $19/cover, $9/bamboo inserts, or $25 for the cover and insert set.  You will also save money by buying the Apple Cheeks kits, such as the Starter Kit or the Mini Test kits, instead of buying everything separately.
