Ever since we started looking into cloth diapering one of my top favorite diapers was the BumGenius 3.0 diaper. It has always been a well fitting diaper and is a very good intro diaper for people that are just starting out. They are very easy to use, durable, and easy to figure out how to use while also being a great quality diaper that will last a long time.  Diaper Junction was wonderful enough to send us a BumGenius 4.0 in exchange for our review.

Fit/Rise/Sizing So far I can say that I have had no leaks, no fit issues, and no other problems with the 4.0. I can only say this for my toddler because he is the only one that I have tried it on,  but it fits great on him. I have heard of some other people that have returned their BumGenius 4.0 diapers because of leakage in the leg, but we didn't have any trouble at all.   

Monkey is currently on the biggest rise setting, but has a long time to go in the waist.  The 4.0 does seem to fit Monkey a little better than the 3.0 does. He currently weighs 29 lbs so he is getting close to the top end of the weight range for fitting into the diaper. The rise is higher on the front and the back so it seems to fit more securely to his body and tighter to his tummy.  The 4.0 is made to fit most babies from 8 to 35+ pounds.  It has three rise adjusting snaps on the front of the diaper that allow you to easily adjust the size of the diaper as your baby grows. 

Pocket Opening: The insert opening for the 4.0 is a little wider than the 3.0 and therefore easier to stuff your inserts into. I never had trouble stuffing the 3.0 inserts into the diaper, but a wider opening is deffinately handy and makes diaper stuffing much faster.

Hook and Loop or Snaps:The 4.0 diaper has new and improved hook and loop closures. It is made out of 100% polyester (most are nylon) that is flexible, softer, and stickier after washing. The velcro will hold up better than the 3.0 diaper and last longer. Hopefully this will help those who found that the Velcro tabs on the 3.0 didn't stick as well over time.

I am also EXTREMELY excited to say that the new 4.0 is offered in snaps! Parents that want to avoid Velcro closures wearing out altogether can choose the snap version of the diaper. If I have a choice between Velcro and snaps I will definitely choose snaps. Some people like Velcro more for their diaper closures, but I feel like snaps will last much longer and not wear out as fast as Velcro. So far they have just seemed to hold up better and my little man can't get them undone as easily. Also, the tabs on the diaper are stretchy which seems to keep the front panel from gaping like some of my other diapers I have tried.

Elastic: The 4.0 now offers replaceable elastic in the legs and back of the diaper.  It is made so that it is easy to replace and sew back into the diaper.  All elastic tack-points are now visible from the inside of the diaper. The threads that secure it to the diaper are easily visible. I can see how simple it would be to rip the seams apart and thread a new elastic into the diaper.  To replace the elastic all you have to do it turn the diaper all of the way inside out, un-sew the elastic, thread the new elastic through the leg casing, and stitch it down on each end of the diaper.---Easy Peasy--- Replaceable elastic is such a nice option because if you are planning on using your diapers for more than one child the elastic gets worn out and the diapers then become un-usable. The old 3.0 diapers didn't have the option of replaceable elastic (unless you are a seamstress and know how to get in there without ruining your diapers) so you just had to get new diapers or deal with stretched out elastic .

Colors:The 4.0 has 8 colors to choose from. They are all light pastel like colors right now, but supposedly they are going to be bringing back their bright colors in their diapers sometime soon. I am a little sad that all of their colors are so light because I love the bright colors best, but hopefully they will give us some good brights soon! Three of the available colors are also new color options. The three new colors are Bubble (light lavender), Noodle (light cream) and Sweet (light green)

Care of your diapers: As with all other pocket diapers you will still need to affix the laundry tabs and remove the inserts before washing your diapers.  And as with any other pocket diaper you will need to restuff the diaper before your baby wears it.  So is it worth the extra steps?  I deffinately think so! I have always been a pocket diaper Mama. We have tried a few other kinds of diapers but pockets just seem the best option for us.  Pockets dry faster than most AIO’s and are generally cheaper.

Is it worth the price?: The BumGenius 4.0 is the same price as the 3.0 was-$17.95. Our BumGenius 3.0 diapers have held up very well and I can see them lasting for a long time. The 4.0 seems to me like it will last just as long or longer than the 3.0 because of their updated hook and loop closures and replaceable elastic. They are higher quality now for your money and will last much longer since you can replace the things that generally wear out. I think that they are definitely worth the price.
