As I prepare for our baby to come in less than 5 weeks I am trying to do everything to make nursing more comfortable. With Monkey I was very uncomfortable nursing in public. Whenever we had people over I would go into his room to nurse with the door closed, or if we were out I would go feed him in the car or somewhere away from everyone. Having to barricade myself behind a door just to nurse my son is very annoying and doesn't need to happen!  There are amazing products out there to make your life 100% easier!

ABOUT THE COMPANY:

BabyBond was created with the intention of allowing for “nursing, conversing, and bonding.” Speech-Language Pathologist Missy Reder learned early on that eye contact and attention are vital to cognitive and language development. She believed that every experience is a learning experience and that breastfeeding offers infinite opportunity to interact and communicate with your baby.

With each of Missy's children she was determined to nurse in public "uncovered" while still being modest and discrete. She refused to keep her children’s heads covered while nursing, and there were very few options on the market to help her keep certain body parts covered from view. 

After having four babies, her closet was full of non-flattering nursing tops that were quite expensive. In December of 2006, while feeding her baby at 2 am, she envisioned a nursing accessory that would cover mom but let the baby stay out in the open. It resembled a sash that could be placed over mom’s head and spread out over your shoulder and under your arm. It had a double-panel on the front keeping the breast covered above and below, while the layers of fabric separate easily to allow the baby to latch on.  The next morning, she cut and sewed one of her husband’s t-shirts into the first prototype, at that time it was called the "Slurp & Burp". Since then, she has designed three seperate product lines to meet the needs of a variety of nursing moms and babies. They have since re-named their product and it is now called BabyBond. Which is a name that highlights the primary benefit of their products.

OUR REVIEW:

We have all seen the nursing covers before that cover you and your baby. Those are great and used by most mothers, but there are some problems with them. If it is hot outside it will get very warm under the cover and your baby will get uncomfortable, you can't interact with your baby while nursing, and EVERYONE knows what you are doing just by seeing the nursing cover.  Baby Bond is a whole different kind of "nursing cover." It covers the mom but not the baby so the only thing that you have to worry about is keeping yourself covered. It is also fantastic because it isn’t really obvious what it is or what you are doing.  Most people will just think you are holding your baby, which makes nursing in public more comfortable.

There are three distinct styles of BabyBond covers – Original, Flex, and Couture.

The BabyBond Original is the original cover that they started the company with.  It is worn like a sash over your shoulder and functions like a nursing top. To stay fully covered you just nurse from the top of your shirt. Separate the layers of fabric to achieve latch on and then get yourself covered. It also includes a built-in double-layer terry velour burp cloth. Both items store easily in their included matching pouch.

The Flex cover is almost the same as the original, but it has a removable 9 x 12″ double layer terry velour burp cloth. Like the original it also comes with a storage pouch that fits both items easily.

 We were sent the Couture cover to review in Hudson (black.) I choose to review the couture cover because it has so much more versatility. It ties so that it is more of a one-size cover, it  can be used like the sash cover, or as more of a belly band. So you aren't limited to nursing from the top of your shirt. If you use it as a belly band you can nurse from the bottom of your shirt and keep your tummy covered as well. It also has an attached self-storing pouch you you can always have the storage bag close by and not have to worry about loosing it. I am looking forward to trying it out when our little man is born. Anything that will make our experience easier and more enjoyable is more than welcome!
